Oday 22 Lake Simcoe
I bought a O'Day saillboat last summer. The guy said it was a 1974 22 Warlock however I can't find that model anywhere and am convinced he didn't know. It looks alot like a 222 but they where built in the 80s and there are a few differences. This boat has a pop-top, motor-well and a keel that fully retracts into a boot inside the boat. There is no hull number on the boat sujesting it is indeed 70s vintage.

It does not look like an O'Day. It does look like a model that a member has at our yacht club. I will get the make and model from his this evening when we go for a late afternoon sail.

Looks like an Outlaw sailcraft of Canada

That looks alomost exactly like the Outlaw from sailcraft that I jsut sold last summer! I was told when I bought the boat it was an Oday Outlaw, but upon taking the serial number found it to be a limited production boat. They only made a dozen or so and they are hard to find out there. I did find Hull One sailing on the UK, but that was made in the UK, then they sold the mold a group in Canada, who make multi hulls. Peter Milner I believe made them.

But it looks like my old Outlaw, and if I had closer pics I could be sure. it was great 23' boat raced very well, but the cabin was too small for my wife and all that, thus the O'Day 26 now.

But I would give a good guess at the Sailcraft though.

Attached image I hope.

Good call on Sailcraft!

I think you might be on to something so I looked up the messages i received from the seller. I was mistaken...he referred to it as a 23 O'day Outlaw!!
I'm loading up a couple of pictures. An more insight into this sporty little boat would be great!

Lost that post I was writing, hit wrong key. Anyway, I not so sure this is an O'Day, this is the same boat and this would be an Outlaw by sailcraft. If can be verified easy enough, on the transom top right should be stamped the serial number, and that will clarify if it is an O'Day or not. Nice version othe boat though :)

Re: Good call on Sailcraft!

Nice pics, and if this is the Outlaw by sailcraft, I can send you what I have found out in my search. I have emails from the General Manager of sailcraft at the time and he verified the boat as an Outlaw, based on my sending in the serial number. I found the Serial on the transom upper right outside, was clearly stamped there. (Here is a library when I was selling her)

I have the Original "Sales Brochure" I thought it was a manual but the guy from sailcraft laughed and said it was a sale brochure.

Here is the email from The GM at the time, we never reconnected though:

"Hi Bill
I was the general manager of sailcraft of Canada '72 to '74. We started building the Outlaw in '73. Reg White had commissioned the design from Peter Milne, the designer of the Fireball. Reg made the moulds and built the prototype in UK. We built 10 or 12 boats and sold the moulds to another company who made a couple more boats.
If you have any questions I will try to answer them.

Geoff Dobbs"

I will post a pic of the serial so you can what the sailcraft serial format should look like and compare with O'days.

Serial for the sailcraft and image of the UK boat

Here is a pic I took of the serial on the transom as well as an image for the UK version of the boat.

I loved this boat and would have kept it, but could not have two boats according to the boss :) This boat handled very well, and was modified from it's original format. Someone moved the headstay forward to the bow about 14' and that changed how she sailed a bit. Someone put on nice winches from a block and tackle type system for handling the sails. it has a nice spinnaker and was repainted at least once.

I looked for several years to id the boat as I was told with certainty it was an O'Day and tried to ID the O'Day as the serial made no sense when matched as an O'day. that is most likely what led me to purchasing the O'Day 26 in the long run.

After several years of digging I stumbled across the Sailcraft idea, and it turned out correct after digging up the makers of the boat and verifying with them. It was a great adventure investigating the origins of this boat.

Trying to upload the brochure as well as in PDF format. ( Wont upload maybe too large)

Hope all this helps, hope I didn't give to much away as I said it was fun investigating and discovering it all on my own. I tried finding more boat pics out there without too much luck, and the google pic is a nice one if it is this boat as it shows the pop top in action. Mine did not have canvas so I never used it, once I took it off like a Hard Top Conv and sailed that way, but the top was heavy and a bear to move to the dock.

As an aside, note the spelling of the stamp on the transom, that was unique to say the least :) "MIDE IN CANADA" maybe ran short on A's :)

Happy sailing.

I just bought one of those!

I just bought what the guy at my marina "thought" was a Sailcraft Outlaw 22. It had sat for a couple of years in his field so it is going to take some work to get it into the water... I bought it to learn how to sail and take some weekend trips around the 1000 Islands and it was definitely an impulse buy. It makes me pretty happy to hear that people have enjoyed owning and sailing them. I am interested in any information about this boat that anyone has and I'll post pictures of the project as I am working on it.

Check on the linek I posted there are some closer shots I do have some close ups and could send to you as well.

A few years back i ran into a guy on the internet who had this boat, he was in Canada as well, and he was renovating from the ground up but he never posted the pics so i don't know if he did ever refurbish it, what would be the chances it is that one :)

I can pass along pics to you if you message me your email, close ups of some of the rigging.

Hi,

I have a Milne Outlaw too.
I bought it in 2006 and restored it completely (new teak rubrails, new wiring and lights, redid all the interior woodwork). Sadly I didn't get out at all last year and am now just going to put her in the water this year.... crazy how busy we get. At any rate, I do love the boat and it sails very well.
If you have pictures of the inside of yours I'd be curious to see it. I will post some pictures soon.

Hi,

One thing that I have struggled with is raising the mast without the assistance of at least one other person. Has anyone here found a method to do so on this boat without adding a lot of hardware to the boat or modifying the mast foot?

thanks in advance,

Does anyone have rigging details for this boat? I have requested a brochure but no luck yet. I picked up an abandoned Outlaw 22 in fairly good shape. I want to have the rigging details before I start tearing it apart for paint. I will send a photo shortly.
