What is your oldest boat picture?

As I am sitting here waiting for the weather to warm up so I can install a shelf that I have made for my Hunter 240. I have been going through many old photographs. I found these of my mom, dad and me on the second boat that he had built, the Bonnie. It appears to be about a 20 foot open inboard powered utility. The only memories I have is of going forward under a very small cutty and that the life jacket was way too big. The photo was taken on the Mississippi, North of St. Louis near Alton, IL. I was born in 1947 and I am probably about four years old here.

I haven't been sailing all that long - bought my first boat, a Catalina 22, back in 2003. It seems like a LOOOONG time ago.

When this picture was taken, the kids were 2, 5, 8. They have grown quite a bit since then! The boat has grown too (from a 22' to 28', 35', 36' and now 40'

My boats have grown also. I learned to sail a dingy and an X Boat at summer camp when I was ten.. I built an eighteen foot sloop in high school and later brought it to Georgia. My second wife bought me a Hobie 18 that we had for thirty-five years. My first cabin boat is our H240 which we bought last July in Jupiter, Florida and towed to Georgia. We keep in a slip in Lake Lanier, Georgia.

My father, mother, brother and I would race our 17 foot cold moulded plywood Thistle every weekend. I'm seated in front of my father.This photo was taken in 1960. I was 8 years old at the time. The Thistle class rules only allowed three people while racing. Our fleet considered the two kids as one adult. Fun times!

I should have mentioned that my mom still has my first boat. She uses it as a row boat but she still has the rigging and sails.

This photo was 1976 or 77. I'm the kid in the red sweater, my Mom behind me, Dad behind her, my sister in the yellow and my Aunt beside me in the companion way. We all look a little concerned because a 24 or so foot boat just capsized beside us. Other than that it was a great day on our Viking 33.

Late 70s. Chutes on cats were not common then and it would GO. That is the boat that taught me about sailing. Other boats taught me about boats.

While my early boating was in the early 60’s on a Thunderbird and ElToro dinghies none of the images from that time seem to have survived.
In 96 I bought my Montgomery 15. I named her Chugger. I used the excuse that she was on a trailer and ideal to help transport the last of the garage boxes and family goods when moving from California to Oregon. Better than renting a u-haul trailer. My wife almost accepted my logic.

Here is an image. She was a fun boat. Designed and built the bow sprit and asymmetrical sail for her.

Everyone has me beat. I've been on boats.. I was a baby when we sailed to America from Germany in the '50s. My boat experience started on the USS Midway. We use to deploy out of Yokosuka Japan with the Navy..it's a museum now
