the cabin sole at the compression post? I've read in this forum about a steel beam under the post on the H-30's. Since the bilge is so shallow on the H-27, what might be the support? I have not searched the archives yet.

Glass floor on the grid on the hull

With the lighter loads of the 27, the compression post rests directly on the glass floor of the cabin. This in turn is support by a (nearby) grid beam - one of a set that is glassed to the hull, and stiffens the whole hull. The bottom at this point is about an inch thick on our '77 model, adding even more support. I was surprised at the simple approach, but have never heard of any problems in this area of the h27, despite issues with our larger sisters. David Lady Lillie

Larger sisters?!

Who you callin' large David? One larger sister, my H37C, is keel-stepped. No issues here. :) Weren't some other Cherubini models keel-stepped?

mine sits on a ridge running port to starboard

the ridge is about 2 by 4 and hollow. the mast wires run through the ridge and come up out of a hole in the ridge next to the post and run up the post. I rewired from the battery out and when I hit this area I noticed a lot of discoloration and some rot at the base of the comptression post. Water had been sloshing out of the hole. Apparently the ridge creates a water trap lower than the lowest bilge and it stays in there. It looked like factory work under the post's veneer and it looked like the hole wasn't ever sealed. If I hadn't been wiring, I probably wouldn't have seen the hole and the water slosh would have eaten the bottom of the compression post.

Thanks...

I recently discovered the infamous sag in the cabin roof under the mast plate. It had been hidden under a thick disguise of caulk from the PO. After I noticed wet spots at the top of the post, I decided to recaulk and now anticipate, with much joy, another spring project. There have been a lot of discussions on this site about the cabin roofs and posts, but not the support under the post. Thanks for your help, story to be continued.

30 and 33 have compression posts

If I remember posts on the subject. Didn't mean to spread the wrong impression about the biggest sister, Ed! David Lady Lillie
