I have a 1990 Hunter 35.5 that has one of these on each side of the cockpit...can anyone tell me what they are and what they are used for??? I have never seen one before.

That's a pretty interesting hack... it looks like a solar vent that's been installed in a winch pad.

I should also add that it doesn't have any openings...it is solid all the way across and it is covering what looks like a winch pad.

Does look like a winch pad. My guess is; that is where the spinnaker winches were normally installed. Those winches were optional equipment according to the brochure. Maybe if you didn't order the winches, they gave you some of those fancy looking covers instead :)

Hello,

On the 35.5 this is a winch pad, it look like someone had made a hole on this location to install something and dismantled the installation and put a cover over the hole. Originally it was looking like the picture attached, minus the bimini attachment. On my boat, there are 2 dorade further aft to ventilate de battery compartment.

What Are These

Do they light up at night. Definitely solar panels of some sort, may a set of very small solar panels to trickle charge the batteries.
