Hard to tell from the angle of the shot, but could be an Ensign 22, small cabin, loooong cockpit. I used to sail a rental off Coral Gables 20 years ago. Didn't have an engine...:)

Could also be a Rhodes 19, although they seemed to have longer cabins as I recall.

It'd help if you told us how long it is.

jho, I've got to comment on this one. That boat could be an ensign, but the transom doesn't look like it. Regardless, I see that you said you're new to sailing, and I don't know how abundant sailboats are in Alabama. But if you're planning on returning that circus wagon back into a functioning sailboat, time and money my friend. I would hope the boom, mast, sails, etc. etc. etc. would come with it, or it will be more money than time. Sell the motor, seats, depth finder, and depending on what you've got in it, who knows. If you're looking for a project sailboat, I wouldn't touch it.
I just got back from looking at a Macgregor Venture this morning, cause I'll flip a boat in a minute, it was a thousand bucks, with trailer, and a sail away.
I declined.
Functioning sailboats are everywhere, at least on the coast. If you are not a drinking man;
you will be before you "sail" that thing.......

Sorry about the rant man, just trying to save you a LOT of trouble.

I own a Catalina 22, but I'm just looking at this one to play with. The guy that has it, says it's 18 feet. His grand father made a fishing boat out of it as you can tell. He has the boom, mast and all the sheets, which are in pretty good shape being they were barley used. He just wants 200 bucks for the boat and trailer. I'm just wanting something a little smaller for lake sailing. The guy who has it does not know what kind it is.

Gotta agree with Chris on this one. I like to buy old day sailers that nobody wants, fix them up, sail them for a while and then sell them. I get a lot of satisfaction saving a boat, but usually lose money on the deal. It's also a means to learn a lot about boat maintenance and repair. This project boat is the proverbial hole in the water that you'll throw way too much money in, based on my experience. If you can buy it for $200, I'd do so with the plan of parting it out, taking that money and buying a decent day sailer that meets your needs.

If those seats come with it, you may be able to part those out, sell them separately and get your $200 back. Could be a fun project if you have room in the yard.

You said boom, mast, and sheets. You din't mention sails. Therein lies your biggest expense.

Does that outboard come with it? I'll pay the 200, give you the boat and trailer and keep the OB. Sound like a deal?

$200 for the outboard, as long as it runs is a deal right there. Sell the seats for $25-50 each if not ripped. Trailer is worth $200 alone if the tires hold air. If there is gas in that tank your ahead!

There you go. Sell the motor, the seats, the trailer, then.....
pour the gas down below, with a burning piece of paper,
and during the conflagration, I suggest getting on your knees,
and begging god to forgive the man that did this...
