hank mckune built champion.. precursor to yorktown yachts,a sturdy lil boat. were many of these studebaker looking boats near his yard in wilmington, ca, up to 1992, when he went to oregon.. i think he may have died since then..... funny looking lil boat but solid and sail decent.

I think I like it I can't see the keel so well But the cabin top works The sheer is nice I'd like to know more about it

Looks like a Victory 21 ft hull with a bigger cabin

scabbed on. Can't tell too well from the photos.

It's A Rhodes

One of the very first west coast production fiberglass sailboats. In the 1950's. Note the wrap around windshield. Not sure if Phillip Rhodes was the designer or if it was just the name of the sailboat manufacturer. When I was in college in the beginning of the 1960's, there were quite a few of these slipped in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. There are still a few. If you think of the mid-50's the appearance makes sense. Sort of a testament to the durability of (overly-built early) fiberglass construction.

they were made with modified steel bolt on keel, spade rudder. so ugly they are cute. hank mc kune is designer of this boat. is not rhodes. is a champion, by marque.

It's a boat that would look right being towed by a classic car of the same era!

In the light of day - the cabin top doesn't really work But if the curve of the cabin top remotely reflected the sheer I think it would be fine Nevertheless an interesting and practical design Iron keel? I guess better than steel but ...

By God, 50 years later I get corrected. Wonder if Rhodes was the designer? The brokers called them Rhodes... probably made them easier to sell!

brokers lie to sell product. rhodes had nothing at all to do with hank mc kunes designs. they were 100 percent hank. pre-yorktown boats....i was questionably fortunate to have met and spoken with hank mckune in his latter days as i commissioned him to build one of the world's most ugly yachts for me in his version of 42 ft.... he was a character, and interesting conversationalist.
