Corroded tab broke off the and now boat will not start, not even crank.so I assume its ignition related. Need to identify part so I can replace it.

Well..without knowing what engine this is a picture of . Here is my wild guess . That looks like a sending unit. As it has a tube broken off ..I'd guess that it is for oil pressure . I'm fairly certain be the corrosion that it has been broken for some time. . I'm thinking that this isn't your problem ,as to why your engine won't turn over .. i'd start with checking voltage from the battery ..to the key switch .. to the starter..

Welcome to the site @dcato . You have just connected with one of the best collection of mechanical and electrical troubleshooters in the field of pleasure sailboats.

HOWEVER

I order to help YOU solve your problem, we're going to require all of the information you can collect related to this problem. Let's start with the most important detail : what is the make and model and year of the engine ? This is in an unknown year Cat 310 sailboat and could have any of several engines installed during construction. It's not like a car. With this info, you can pull the engine manual from the archives on this site.

Next, please supply a better photo of the part in question from a distance to show where it's located. The more photos the better the chance of identifying the part. A wild guess says it might have something to do with the fuel system by the look of the tubing but the lack of ability to crank says "no".

Corroded tab broke off the and now boat will not start, not even crank.
Please supply the missing word after the words "broke off the".

If it sounds like we're getting you to do all the work, you are exactly right. In this day and age when everything that was ever built has a manual somewhere on line, we'll show you how to go about researching your own problem. After all, most of us here are retired and we've quit working for other people. Let's see how this goes.

Sorry, universal m25 on a 2001 Catalina 310. I thought it might be the ignition coil. I should check the key switch, felt a little different. Cabin lights work fine. I’m not good with electronics, not bad with hoses and coolant systems. Thank you.

There is the remnant of the corroded tab on the piece in question. Been all over the manuals, can’t find a diagram or picture that corresponds to it. Anyway 2001 Cat 310 with M25 XP engine

Diesels don’t have ignition coils so you can eliminate that thought. However, given the limited description, it certainly sounds like an electrical issue.
It could be as simple as the ground point on the engine. Hard to guess absent more info.
