Hi all,

I recently became the proud owner of a 1982 Hunter 33. While going through the boat, my wife found this plate of metal (see attached picture). We asked the previous owner what it is, and he said he thinks it's some kind of backing plate for an anchoring platform, but didn't seem to have a clear idea.

The plate is quite heavy, about 3/4" thick.

Does anybody know what it is?

Thanks!

Not that I would have a clue but what are the dimensions? And what is written on the label besides '10' and 'Canada'? Very interesting with that strange cutout.

Could it be a backing plate for a windlass?

Ed, I think that is a 10 Canadian Dollar bill - Probably for a size reference.

Whatever

Could it be a backing plate for the mainsheet traveller arch? did your boat come with the traveller arch? Most did, but a few did not... mainly boats destined for use as charters. Good Luck

Ed, Manny's right. I put a $10 bill on the plate for size reference. I didn't have a tape measure at the time.

My guess is that it's a backing plate, but I wasn't able to find an obvious place where the strange cut out would fit.

Thanks for your suggestions.

$10.00 Canadian Bill now worth, approximately $8.20 American. We poor Canadians measuring things with devalued money.

I used to have a H33. Fabulous boat. Takes the waves very well, can handle a lot of wind and sea, and goes to windward like a witch. Congratulations on a great purchase! Hope you enjoy her as much as I did mine!
Don't recognize the plate in question. I wonder if it were once a backing plate, possibly for a windlass, and someone cut out the odd shape to use for something else, although what is beyond me. I am almost sure, if we ever figure it out, we will all sit back and say, "Of course, I knew that"!

Congrats on the boat, I have the same one.
I can't think of what that plate is for but if I do, I will let you know. Gonna cost you $10.00 though. :)

What is it?

I currently have an 1981 H33 and I can unequivocally state that the 81 didn't have one!

In other words NO IDEA, but, it looks real cool !!!!!!

By the way, we are about 6 years into ours and love it!!

Turn the picture over, it looks like it would fit into the chain plate knees. I guess that's what you call those triangular blocks the chain plates are bolted to.

Has anyone seen what's in there?

If you know please let me know. I've had a bug making sawdust in one of mine.

I haven't tried to fit it on the chainplate knees. I'll give it a shot next time I'm on the boat (that'll be launch day, by the way, so I'm getting overwhelmed with excitement).

It's nice to know that other people own the same model and are happy with it :)
