What is this? and Multi-tool

Doubling up here. Anway I found this(picture) when cleaning out a locker. Obviously it is a female shorepower 30 amp connector with a male 15 amp plug. Question is how would you use it? The hard rubber cover prevents it from plugging into a boat's male shorepower plug. Can I strip the cover and use it for plugging the boat into the marina's 15 amp box?

Just threw in my first ever use of my new Bosch Multi-tool. Took maybe 30 seconds to cut off the "legs" of my new Blue Sea battery switch. Very cool. One my Cherubini friends cut the bolts under his traveler with one of these. Is this the blade for cutting bolts? Has "Wood/Metal" written on it.

Ed, that outer cover is supposed to be flexible enough to stretch and accommodate the OD of the plug and make it relatively water tight.. Ya may be able to buy the cover alone from Marinco or Furrion ?? or trim the lip ?? This lip fit was done before the locking rings became the norm..

You wouldn't want to plug this item into your boats input. This adaptor was intended to be up on the dock where the shore 110 outlet is, to mate with your shore power cord male for a waterproof connection, the 110 male end being under the cover of the shore connection box. Additionally, the 30-amp end hanging down forms like an umbrella to divert rain away from the M/F twistlock. Keep it- you sometimes have only the 110 to plug into.

Yes the 15A plug is to be used on a shore outlet or portable generator to connect to the 30A cable. It is not intended to connect directly to the shorepower input plug of the boat.

The cover on the twist lock might not be the correct one and looks like it should be pulled back so the rubber is a tight seal around the connector cap.....I've never seen one that really sealed right

You guys are the best. Ron and Benny get the trophy on this one. Now that you describe it I realize I am truly losing it. Like going to the store without my wallet more and more. The female end will not go into the boat's Marinco plug because there is not enough length. Only the wide part is flexible. The rest of the cover is snug around the plug. You need almost 1/2" of extension to fit the Marinco.

Joker, thanks for the link. That is exactly the blade. One issue I have with the Bosch is the really poor instruction booklet. It states Metal but in the booklet only lists speeds for wood and laminates.

I have a blade like that but it doesn't work well on thick, hard metal. It's more for trimming around door jambs and baseboards, thin metals, plastic, etc. A dedicated metal blade, usually rectangular with a hacksaw-type edge will be better. That said, a reciprocating type saw with a hacksaw blade is much faster for what you have in mind. Blades are way cheaper too.

You might be right Joe. I do have a heavy duty Rigid reciprocating saw. I'll have to see if I can find a blade for hard metal. This is a place where the traveler bolts go through a piece of teak on the bridgedeck. So I need to saw between the teak and the bottom of the traveler rail. Knowing, of course, that the teak will be discarded.

in travelling you may find a need for the adapter--i have..lol..... keep it and place into your shorepower and other electricity items box---i found uses for those here in mexico. other places also --- i dont use mine often, but when i do , i NEED it...

When using a power blade to cut metal or fiberglass the operative word is SLOW. If you run the tool up to high speed and lean into the blade the teeth super heat instantly and go dull. Use the slowest speed you can stand and go easy. You'll be surprised how much quicker it goes.

I just bought one; I'll attach mine to a 12-foot shore power cable, and then plug the 15 amp plug into a 2000-watt generator that I hang out over the stern when I'm on anchor sometimes, to run a 15,000BTU air conditioner.
