Looks like a very old manual diaphragm pump and

Some even older sanitation hose that's gotten so hard and brittle--and also prob'ly STINK--that it's a wonder that it hasn't split on any fitting it's onto. I'd pull the whole thing out.

Btw...I've never heard of a "backup pump" for any toilet ever made--at least none made in the last 100 years.

Dont think I have a "maserator pump".

Yeah, that area doesnt smell to great. Replacing all that tubing is on my list. I've been fixing and cleaning all kinds of stuff and I've only had the boat a couple months.

"Fixing and cleaning..."

You can't get rid of any odor till you find and eliminate the source...so don't even try to combine cleaning and odor elimination in the same step. Remove stinky old hoses, cushions and anything else that you want to get rid of BEFORE you clean. Use only detergent and water to clean...forget bleach. It doesn't clean anything, just makes dirt a lighter color and doesn't get rid of odors permanently anyway.

There's a great product made right your neck of the woods that totally--and permanently--removes any odor...bilge, hoses, even smoke and diesel...it's called PureAyre. PureAyre After you've found and removed all the sources of odors, put it in garden pump spray jug (a trigger sprayer would wear out your hand) and lightly coat every surface, nook and cranny. Don't rinse, just let it dry with all hatches open for at least 24 hours. Your boat will smell like fresh air and sunshine...if it doesn't, you haven't found and removed all the sources of your odors. Wish I'd had PureAyre when I restored a 20 yr "floating bag lady" that smelled like a combination of brewery and a swamp when I bought her.

yup, pretty sure that's a manual diaphragm pump used to empty the holding tank overboard when out to sea.

I agree with Alex. That is a manual pump for pumping out at sea. Also agree with Peggy. Your picture tells a story. I know your boat stinks. Your hose is perminated and needs to be replaced. I have replaced mine with SeaLand hose. If you need some tips and pointers, please feel free to contac me at robt.syl@sbcglobal.net
I will be glad to help you out. Would also advise you to check this web site for replacing hose with rigid PVC tubing. Excellent article on how to do this on this web site under Hunter 31 modifications. I plan on doing this myself next time, if there is one. Replaced my 5 years ago. Still smelling good.
