I am replacing my bilge pump on my 1978 Catalina 30. The old one is wire-tied to a keel bolt. The easiest way to reliably mount the new one would be screw it to the bottom of the bilge with short screws. Is this OK? What is under the bilge? How thick is it?

Don't use 5200. It's nearly impossible to remove and, evenually, you'll want to take the bilge pump out.

What is under the bilge is your keel.

Go ahead and use short screws just long enough to hold your pump in place. You won't hurt anything and you won't go through the hull.
