What is it?

I have a 77 27ft Hunter. Under the cockpit area I found what looks to be a all-threaded rod attached to the hull and it has a 10ft wire coming out of the top, the wire has a connection on the end of it. What is this and should it be connected to something?

Stumped

This sounds like the work of a prior owner. But it would help if you could describe the location and device in more detail. The only hardware like that under the cockpit of our '77 h27 is the flexible throttle cable or shifter cable. David Lady Lillie

More detail

It is located on the starboard side just aft of the engine. It looks like it might go through the bottom hull. the threaded rod is approx 6 inces long. It looks original but you could be correct about it being a add-on.

More

Does the rod go through the hull? Does it widen to a puck size at the hull? How is it attached to the hull? This starts to sound like some kind of transducer (if it is, this is the worst place to put it!) depth or other. David Lady Lillie

Even more details

It appears to go through the hull and it does not widen at the bottom. The threaded rod looks to be one half to three quarters of an inch in diameter and is hollow where the wire comes out of it. I agree with you, it does sound like some kind of transducer.

Next step is to look outside the hull

A quick look below will show you what the transducer looks like. The other way to do it is to find a makers name or number on the hardware. David Lady Lillie
