Hi Bob, Thanks for visiting the Doyle sails Forum. Going by your description of the sail and the approximate age, it is most likely an early Laminate fabric. Probably a lightweight polyester(Dacron)with mylar Film. The Construction of alternating the panel was common practice back then. The new laminates are quite a bit different and vastly improved.
