I am new to sailing, just starting lessons. My wife, on the other hand, is an experienced sailor. For Christmas I was considering a surprise of a boat that we had looked at through the local sailing club, to sail around on the local lakes. The dealer described it as an "O'Day 18." But, my research hasn't turned up any such boat made by O'Day. Can one of you experienced mariners help out--any idea what this boat actually is? (The boat doesn't have sails, so I wanted to find out what replacements would cost, and I haven't turned up anything.) Thanks, Jim

Hmmmm....

I'm not aware of any 18 ft. O'days. The Day Sailor is 17' and there are, I believe, three variations. At 19', there are four different models - the Rhodes 19, a dayboat, in both fixed keel and centerboard versions, the Mariner, which is basically a Rhodes 19 hull with a weekender-type cabin, there is a shoal keel/centerboard O'day 19 from the early '80s and the O'day 192 from the mid-eighties. If you know what the boat you are considering looks like, you may find a match in a photo either on this site or at the IheartOdays site. Good luck!

Early Mariner

That boat is a 1968 or older O'DAY Mariner, it looks to be the centerboard model. I'd guess that she is a 1963 model, based on others that I've seen of that vintage. This would be the 2 berth model, cockpit is not self-bailing, but these are sure nice boats. I'll try to add a link to a 1968 O'Day brochure for help.

COMMAND TEXT: INSERT INTO forumcontent (forumpost_id,psamp) VALUES ('1580','HELLO, I AM ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE THAT THIS BOAT IS AN ODAY MARINER. IT IS JUST OVER 19'. IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST BOAT TO LEARN ON AS WELL AS ALOT OF FUN FOR EXPERIENCED SAILORS. I JUST PURCHASED ONE AND IT IS A GREAT BOAT. IT HANDLES GREAT AND IS ABLE TO SAIL IN ANY CONDITION!! YOU CAN HAVE A RELAXING CRUISE AS WELL AS A VIGEROUS SPORT SAIL. IT WORKS FOR ANYTYPE OF SAILOR. THE CABIN IS OK FOR 2 PEOPLE TO OVERNIGHT ON BUT NOT TWO LARGE. THE ONE IN YOUR PICTURE IS SWING KEEL WHICH MEANS IT CRANKS UP INTO THE HULL AND THE BOAT CAN BE DRAFTED AT 11" WHICH IS NICE FOR A 19' BOAT. THE ONE IN YOUR PICTURE IS A NEWER ONE BECAUSE OF THE FIBERGLASS CABIN VENT AS FAR AS THE ORIGINAL MARINER GOES SO I WOULD SAY BETWEEN 1967 AND 69. THEESE GENERALLY SELL FOR ABOUT $1000 OR LESS THE ONE YOU ARE LOOKING AT I WOULDNT PAY ANY MORE THAN $1500 DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION AND IF IT COMES WITH A MOTOR OR NOT, IF YOU NEED ANY MORE INFO OR PICTURES JUST E MAIL ME AT PBLANC4@COMCAST.NET THANKS!!!!')
