Just like preparing for any possibly 'strenuous' athletic activity ... I 'pack carbohydrates' - pasta, breads, etc. and 'overload' on liquids. Good for long term 'workouts' and to retard dehydration.
I prefer to head for the hills, but usually at the ultimate last minute to better affect the 'prep' and see how 'its actually developing'.

I always stay on board just in case the anchor drags. It is easier to manage things from on board then to watch things happen and not be able to do anything about it.
Zee, I usually will prepare "hand" foods ahead, like for a passage, during the storm you will need stuff you can find and eat without further prep. Some storms pass quickly (12 hrs or so) but some can stall and wobble overhead for over 24 hrs. My personal "stay aboard or leave" policy is that I stay for anything UNDER a cat3. You don't want to be aboard in Cat 3 and above. I've heard horror stories, and read obits.... Rest up ahead, you won't sleep during the storm, regardless of whether you are aboard or not. this one isnt gonna hit us--i am just seeing what you all do--i have no choice but remain aboard for anything--is my home and bubby's-- we in a sheltered locale so we fine anyway-- our adrian isnt north of manzanillo yet, out to sea and dissipating in cold water--- will pass by turtle bay fairly closely, so those folks get to deal with him-- we are fine until usually in sept, late aug..... just stirring up trouble for now..is hot and i am bored --procrastinating..LOL

as soon as i am cooled off enough to remember to send my brother the address here , i get my okie airconditioner..LOL...a 10 in fan runs on 12 v or 110v...LOL...... goooood brother....
i did notice my hands no longer have as much pain as in coldville,sd.......and our fun time is now just a good breeze for sailing a force 50 or formosa..LOL....but i knew it would do that-----

I've been using this Alleve stuff (not sure on spelling) for my aches and pains around the boat. The stuff is cheap and it works wonders.
if one has asthma, one best not be taking aleve, but is good for many inflammatory problems including arthritis --i can no longer take nsaids as i have taken them for too many years in too high doses. reynaud's disease precludes living comfortably..lol
