What do you use for safety wire?

For things like tying off the set screws on the coupler or on instrument thru-hulls so they don't back off.

I've got 2 sizes of stainless but I've been trying Monel lately, in static application it seems fine, it's softer than stainless but doesn't rust, beats me.

Annealed stainless. But your twists could be much improved. Middle the wire and twist them together instead of one around the other.

Safety wire

.041 and .032 304SS. Monel is slightly magnetic and will corrode. Dont forget to safety wire the shackle on your anchor!

Specifications

When you install lockwire you want to install it so that if a bolt tries to unscrew it is putting a tightening load on the other bolt it is attached to. As Ross notes there is a specified way to twist the wire and you can buy special pliers for this that give you the correct twist. If you search the net you can likely get a specification with diagrams on how to do it correctly. The picture in this thread is definitely not correct.
