I need to get a depth finder. Was looking into this one, Humminbird HDR 610 In-Dash Digital Depth Sounder. It doesn't require any cutting. You just glue it inside fiberglass hull. I got a small 222 Oday and will be sailing it on long island sound off connecticut.

I optioned for a "EAGLE" FISHEASY 245DS, a nice compact unit that has one of the greatest angle of sonar of 120 degrees. glue the transducer to the hull and mount the display ( I am using a swing away mount) so if I do not want it in the way it is behind the main companion way. The fish finder idea I read about in some magazines and I like the idea because it shows the contour of the bottom not just the depth.

I too have been debating the depth finder issue and some of the guys on our lake have opted for the $99.00 version from West Marine, about 2 inch round face, dont know the Model number, two of them say they get very erratic readings at times and not always while undersail.
I am considering one of the GPS/fishfinder combos. The Idea of mounting it on a swing away mount is a great idea, use it while under way, and inside for anchor alarm etc. will overnighting. can you supply pics of the swing arm?
I overheard a conversation in a local store that Lawarnce was having antenna issues with their HD gps/finder series, any word on that?

Is the transducer glued inside the hull or outside?

glue the transducer to the INSIDE as parallel to the water as possible thus keeping the same "look" to both sides. Make sure the epoxy has NO air bubbles in it as that will give you a BAD reading
