I am considering buying this boat. The seller does not know who made it. It is listed as a 16' with main sail, jib, and spinnaker. It appears to have a metal centerboard that has rollers that follow a track when lowered. Does anyone recognize this boat?

looks like a rebel

the boat looks like it could be a rebel... made by company in ohio by name of greene(?) it is an ok boat that would self-bail from rainstorms as cockpit floor was above waterline. rebels were built for a long time. i used the boat to teach my wife to sail without me being there to "... make her nervous."

as i recall it was built ok, fairly heavy, and simple. good luck. don

If it has a hull number, the letters and numbers will tell make, model, year and number in series.

Yes it is a Rebel, I have had 2, on older than this one and one just like it, they are a blast and sail quite well, very heavy and stable. Manufactured by Ray Greene. I sold mine for $800.00

Yes definitely a Rebel, I had one like this. It is a Mark II, probably early to mid 70's. It is still being made by Nickels Boat Works in Michigan(www.nickelsboats.com/home.html ) You can still get parts. There is a large fleet of Rebels sailing in Des Plaines IL, (Des Plaines Yacht Club), and the National Regatta is being held in Grand Rapids MI on July 9,10 and 11.

I currently own a 1980 model. The are very well built, heavy (700#) and carry 166 feet of sail. They are fast and alot of fun to sail. They are somewhat tender and can be a handful in winds in excess of 10 mph, although not as tender as a Buccaneer.

If this is where the mast steps, I'd say no jib or spinnaker, rather with the cockpit coaming as further evidence, it's a Catboat.

I've never sailed a rebel, but I've seen them around, so unless its some kind of optical illusion as to the size of this boat's foredeck, I don't see how it could be a rebel. There is no deck mast step that I can see and the foredeck is much smaller and shorter than any rebel I've seen.

I would tend to agree, it's some kind of catboat...
