It looks to me like something the previous owner added to the boat. From the image the plate appears to have slots that something can slide down into the slots and then sit there. What that is is anyone’s guess. I suspect you have something on the boat with a trapezoidal steel piece attached. The trapezoidal piece slides down into the plate in the cockpit.

Maybe drink holders. Who knows.

My guess: it's a bracket for a drink holder. Find that corresponding pieced that slides in the bracket, add a cold and frosty brew....you're in business!
There was nothing on boat that slides down in there. I was thinking tiller tamer but did no know what would slide in there for that.

I used to own an olympic Dolphin as well and they are to hold a table in place, my brackets were a bit different but I also had a pair inside on either side of the drawers
Yes mine has those too. That’s the little bracket to the side of the one in my pic.

I have those and they are sold as a pair for a shelf type table. The other end is a 90 degree stainless steel angle about 1/8x2x2 . In my situation it is a removeable table about 3/4x24x24.
