What are these treasures?

I had a very slow sail today (~5 knots of wind), so I set the AP and started sorting through some of the PO’s parts organizers to throw stuff away (I have owned Tally Ho for 10 years now, so it way past time)?

One organizer had a lot of small parts….crush washers of various sizes, various o-rings, incandescent light bulbs (i replaced all of the interior cabin lights to LED…so maybe I stuck them in there), a bunch of little red bulbs for the cabin lights that also can display red), and sundry other items.

2 items in particular caught my attention and I have no idea what they are or what their application on a boat may be…and there were a fair number of these 2 items…

Hoping someone can give me an idea what these are and what they are used for:

The battery is there for a size reference…it is a AA.

There is a very small copper or brass rivet (at least it looks like it could be a rivet…) but it is not a pop rivet. No idea what something like this would be used for on a boat.

The second item is a piece of metal rod, bent in a strange shape. The long straight end has been “sharpened“ a little, but not to the point that is goes to a sharp point. Just the edges have been eased. The other end is cut off flat.

I put a lot of stuff in a bag to throw away at some point..and these little items are in there….hoping someone can tell me what they are used for before I throw away some hard-to-find, valuable items!

The copper tube looks like a backing for some kind of fabric fastener. I'm blank on the other object. But it's stainless so someone thought it was worth fabricating... Think rigging.

Does the copper piece have an indent on the end opposite the head, or is it hollow?

The SS piece looks like it could be used to pin something in place, with the curved opening to slip your finger into to pull it out. Perhaps part of a gimballed stove, or for a cabinet door or table somewhere. Not big enough for much else.

no indent or hole the little copper piece on the head end. It is hollow, but the end is solid.

The “copper” piece is a gas compression insert sleeve

Good guess, but there is no hole in the end. The tube is hollow, but the head end is solid.
Also, the end is not tapered like photo you included.

Agree. It seems like it is intended to pin something

But I found 10 or more stored away and I haven’t run into them pinning anything innthe 10 years I have owned the boat

Solid head, hollow body - they look like fabric rivets. But there should be a mating piece for the hollow end unless those were all used up... If you don't have the other end, and you don't have the riveting die - pretty much copper recycling...

I have no idea what those are, but it took me just as long to sort through all the bits n bobs left by the PO.

Removeable hinge pin and bushing?

Do they fit together?
I don’t thing they were meant to be used together….just my feeling though. not the same material, pin is way to long for the little brass bushing. And they were not in the same bin of parts…

Certainly could be that the PO was making his own Levi’s!

All of the little parts are the same.

Not enough of them to warrant recycling.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I think at this point I am assured I am not throwing some critical parts away….

So, thanks to all who made suggestions, I think I am comfortable tossing the lot in the trash.

Thanks again,

That is the best way to find out you need them and where they go.
