what are h26 stanchions made of, aluminum? can they rust?

do stanchion caps made of plastic to fill the top actually stop water getting in?

I never noticed stanchions getting weaker over time so I always wondered about all this. - Dave

Stainless steel. Post a picture of the stanchion. I think the plastic piece is a cover over the stainless steel cap

Definitely SS. Aluminum would very likely collapse in the event of someone falling on a lifeline.

Never have seen a sailboat with aluminum stanchions. Some with galvanized water pipe, but no aluminum.
