h37c bottom job

I just did the bottom and it took 3 gallons to get a good coat with extra coats at the waterline.

Thick Richard?

Three gallons seems like a lot. Takes about two gallons of Trinidad SR but then mine is a shoal draft. :) I did five thick coats of Interlux 2000E and used 6 gallons as I recall. I think our below-the-waterline area is around 250 sq. feet. The Interlux site has a calculator and puts it at 302 but they only ask for LOA not LWL. Big difference between '37' and '30'.

2 gallons last time

I've done mine 3 times with Trinidad. Each time I bought 3 gallons, each time I had some left. The last time I reaized I was sanding off a lot of very good paint, so I only put it on heavy where it actually was used up, which was mainly around the water line. On the parts that point down, it was still nearly as thick as when I put it on. Once I finished, I still had one unopened gallon can. By the way, each time it was about 5 years between bottom jobs.

Bottom paint

The last time I painted the bottom I used a roller and 1.5 gal of West Marine bottom paint. The previous time was the same. I have 1/2 gal left for next time. I did not sand to clean bottom, just roughed the surface. Most of the old paint was still good. I think it was about a year and a half between bottom jobs. I put extra on the bow and leading edge of the rudder where I get most wear. Forunately we have cold water here. It is not like when I had the boat in Corpus Christi. It needed paint every year there. Fair winds. Don
