Earlier this winter I posted the topic "Water Water Everywhere". I had found many I kept finding many gallons of water in the bilge, wet walls, water around the hatch boards, water in the sink and under the sink and wet cabin top.
Today I own a dry boat. At least it looks like it will stay dry in heavy rains.
1. I found that after blasting the hull the yard crew washed off the dust. They got water past the hatch boards.
2. Leaving the cover off of the bilge seems to have let bilge water condense on the ceiling. Kept the cover on and no more condensation dripping from the cabin top.
3. Found the wall wet behind the head. On the outside about a foot of rub rail was damaged/missing with exposed screws that were loose. Tightened and caulked.
4. Followed a wet streak up to the bow. The anchor locker drain was leaking. I pulled the drain out, bedded it with 4200 and installed new hose. The pipe fitting in the bow was turning but did not seem loose.
After those repairs I had a couple of gallons of water after a heavy rain.
So I pulled the rub rail. It had been damaged in several places and was very brittle.
I filled all the screw holes for the RR with West 610 epoxy. I then backed out every joint screw about 1/2", put 4200 on the screws and tightened them.
I then put some of the 610 on a glue brush and swirled it around in the bow anchor locker drain hole, hoping to seal that loose pipe nipple. I didn't put the new rub rail on yet.
Yesterday I got back to the boat after about two weeks with at least one hard rain.
Finally the boat was dry.
