Westerbeke ignition key

2003 B393 with a Westerbeke. I need a new ignition switch/key. Any difficulties changing this out? Any different part numbers known? I see two on eBay for about $40. Hopefully no problems when I open up the engine control panel. - BCD

$40! Yikes, go to an auto store or a hardware store. Even West Marine has them for less than $35.

"Misplaced" the only key! Any other ideas?

Westerner or Beneteau for spare keys? Alternatively can you take the switch out and take it to a locksmith and have a key made. The latter might cost as much as the new switch and key.

I assume if you buy a new one you'll get two keys? That might reduce the cost of the new switch since you'd want to have a spare.

I could be wrong, but within a given manufacturer, the engine keys are all the same? My new-boat Benny dealer just reached into a box of keys to give me a spare.

They told me that too.....for yanmar or Volvo, but not Westerbeke! Go figure.
The current switch is kinda loose anyway, so I'd like to open the panel up and change it out for a good inspection. Couldn't hurt right!

Replaced my defective hi dollar yanmar switch a while back. I went to the local Orealy's in kemah and found a 20/25 dollar solid brass marine/automotive type switch. Works great!

Btw....had friend once who just used a stubby flat blade screw driver for the key on his yanmar .
