Hey all,
I felt my westerbeke 42b on a 381 was shifting hard into gear, out is fine, and noticed rpm at idle was around 1050. My manual says 750-900 rpm so i figured I'd try to adjust.
My procedure was to get engine warm and in idle turn adjuster to lower speed. This was on the idle adjuster according to manual. I'd get to 850 which was running fine with no odd vibration. I'd then engage forward and it was very smooth, then reverse again smooth and back to idle. Idle now popped up to 1k again and forward shift rough.
To me it seems the cable actually prevents the throttle control to "bottom out" when idle from the helm. Knowing my limitations i figure I'd stop at this point and check with an expert.
Is it possible that the throttle cable might need to be adjusted after moving the idle? It seems very small movements of the idle adjustment bolt was needed so odd that this would matter but could it be something else? Governor or some other adjustment needed?
Any tips appreciated.
