Our diesel inboard developed an oil leak. It is not easy getting to the engine as we had to unscrew all the panels surrounding the engine. We are not able to tell where the oil leak is coming from. Has anyone had this problem before and if so, how did you resolve it?

The oil leaks only when the engine is running. We changed the oil filter to make sure the filter was fitting snugly and did not have an extra old rubber washer. With the engine running at 800 rpm's we lost about 1 pint in 9 minutes. The oil collects in low spots under the engine.

Oil is not visible leaking from the top or sides of the engine when the engine is running.

You have to wipe the engine down completely and put paper towels flat in the engine bilge then look after running to see where its coming from and look under the bell housing in front of the tranny cause it might be a rear main seal.
Did you put synthetic oil in?
What model Westerbeke?
