On May 9 (4 weeks ago) dropped my lifelines off at West Marine to have them remade for my Hunter 34. Was told they had 48 hour turnaround. Today, I'm just trying to get my original one's back so I can have them done elsewhere. Is this just a "fluke" with them, or is this normal?

WOW, I've never heard of that problem...

I've had good luck with WM Rigging - I had eye splices put into my new halyards, a snap shackle put on the end of the jib halyard, and the tail ends whipped last year by their rigging shop- It took them about a week as I recall. 4 weeks is excessive... Could they be lost? Are they offering you any kind of compensation? --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind' H25 'Adagio'

Not Normal

I had WM do me some new lifelines and I got great service! I couldn't have been happier. I would suggest that this is a fluke, and since they "farm out" this kind of thing, probably an issue with their supplier. Don't let them off the hook -- they'll make it right. Rick Eagle II

the best

I've crewed on well over a hundred races with the West Coast Supervisor of West Marine Rigging, and can only tell you that he's one of the best all-around sailors I've ever met. (He's the reigning National Champion, by the way, of the Santana 22's, a class in which I've had three podium finishes in the nationals but was never able to win.) Anyway, The caliber of personnel they've got in the WM rigging shop, at least here on the left coast, is impressive.

SAME EXPERIENCE

Had new lifelines made for my H31. Although the shop in Norfolk lost the first order they made it right and I'm very pleased with the result. They even put me in direct contact with one of the riggers to discuss all my measurements and ensure there were no hangups (I didn't have the old lifelines and was adding a boarding gate). Overall, great experience. Give them a chance to get it right. Tim ("TIDE")
