I am about to do add some stiffiners on the inside of the transom on my 1988 H23. This is in prepration of mounting a stern ladder to the boat. I have read that on older FG boats, it is better to use plain old polyester resin because it bonds better to the FG that was used at that time. However, I have done other fiberglass projects (not on this boat) and used the West resin system. I believe the West system is supperior, and would like to use it on this project. I would like the opinion of others on this. Also if anyone has any advice regarding installing a stern ladder to the H23 boat, please give them. I am somewhat concerned about the reverse transom angle on the boat, and how this affects the ladder. Thanks. Bill Leathen - LaCrosse Sailing Club.

I have always used West System epoxy for all my projects. Your query caused me to do some research. Every once in awhile we see someone writing about polyester here on SBO. Here is one article: http://www.redrockstore.com/resin.htm .

I'm with Ed, I've pretty much only used West on the boat and I haven't come across any situations it wasn't suited for.

And please note - it's West Systems, not West Marine Resin as stated in your title.
