Thanks Dave,
I kinda forgot about "Select Plastics". I emailed them twice in the past week and never got a response so I ordered my Portlights from another place. To bad as I did want to give them my business.
Any other place to get it ?

Check out any commercial building supplier. 795 is used for window glazing.

When you use it, make sure that the surface is absolutely clean. Dow makes a cleaner. I taped off the surface area on the deck and the window, then buttered up both sides. Use a spacer under the window as described in the forums. Extra sealant will squeeze out when you set the screws. It will be messy looking, leave it. Let it cure for a week or two. Use a razor blade to trim off the excess. It will come out very nice. Be gentle with it for a couple of months.

MrBee,

I'd suggest Dow 995. It's similar to 795 but it is a structural sealant so you'd be less likely to loose anything in a blow. I replaced the windows on my Lancer 25 last year. I used 3M VHB tape and Dow 995. That's the same combination used to install glass in high rise buildings. Now, I'm thinking of repainting and wondering how I'll get them off. Talk about lousy planning!

Randy is correct. Dow will suggest Xylene to clean all surfaces. If you have a bead showing be sure to tool it. GE makes a silicone joint smoothing fluid that does a really good job. Spray it on, use your finger as a tool and you have an awesome joint. The spray will aslo clean the silicone off your hands.

I work for a commercial/monumental skylight company.

thanks Dscribner,
Not sure I want to use 995 if it would be a problem removing it in a few years.

I would like to pick some up locally but wasn't sure who might carry it.
Thanks

Dangg Dave, I have to look that info up again.
Maybe it was the 295 that I wanted. I thought that number rang a bell.
I have to watch what i use, the only thing holding the Port in will be the sealant.
No retainer or anything like that.

Umm... Dow 795 is a structural adhesive designed for glazing...

We rebeded a skylight window on a Beneteau a few years back. I is still in place and has not leaked. We used 795. Hunter has been using 795 for many years.

Maybe using 995 is like 5200, who needs it?

Don't use SikaFlex 295 to bed ports. Dow 795 is generally what is recommended.

I buy it from McMaster-Carr. They ship it the same day you order it via UPS and their price is reasonable. They have a very wide range of products, always in stock and are a fine responsive company to work with.

Sika 295 can be used but you need to use the special primer with it, thus I prefer 795. Mcmaster-Carr and many other supply houses sell Dow Corning 795. It is not very expensive..
