Taking a cue from the folks over at http://www.TrailerSailor.com, we have imported a number of 'emoticons' for your writing pleasure. *! (See? I did that by typing the symbols: 'asterisk exclaimation point') These can be used in your title or the body of the post to convey emotions or attitudes that sometimes don't come through so well in text. Like dry humor, for example, can often be confused for a flame. Thus, ;D On screens where you post articles or replies you'll see a link to the new emoticons. That link opens a small popup screen so you can see the code to embed in your message. Just type the short character symbols in your messages and they will be interpreted as these little icons. *box As always, there's bound to be a bug or two so if you find one shoot me an email at info @ sailboatowners.com ... without the spaces of course. Enjoy!

Pretty cool Phil :)

Now we just need some sailing related emoticons! ;D Edit: the smile doesn't seem to show up in the reply title. Maybe a little glitch?

Trailer Sailor has Limited Usefulness

Trailersailor postings cover a lot of subjects not related to sailing, which is distracting. I don't really want to read the hundreds, possibly thousands of daily postings in order to find one in which I am interested. I scan the titles and if I see a title that looks interesting, I read it. If they could come up with a symbol that identifies a subject in which I am interested, I would be happy. I don't read all of the postings in the sailboatowners forum either, but it appers that it is esier to sort through them by using the title.

Emoticons, etc.

Well, it is different for us, I admit, but we do believe they bring a little color to the site and on a practical level, actually enhance communication. Besides, it is rare nowadays to find a forum without them. Probably for the reasons stated above. Regarding the spell check, we have yet to find a server-side spellchecker that is compatible with what we run. There are some options among client spellcheckers, though. ph.

I enjoy both

I have enjoyed both, even before the merger. I agree Hunter Owners forum has more specific (and/or technical) information, but sometimes I also enjoy the more general discussion on Trailer Sailor. There is a lot on TS I ignore because it is not related to sailing; but it's easy to pass them by. I'm glad to have both available.

to Joe of San Diego re Spell Checker

Good News! There is a great browser that has a spell checker (and many other nice features like pop-up ad blocking, etc.) called OmniWeb which I use on my iBook. Definitely a cut above brain-dead Explorer! Go to URL = http://www.omnigroup.com/ and select "OmniWeb".

John ...... Thanks for the tip...

... I'll give it a look. Now what's up with the "nm" thing. That's about as irritating as the emoticons.

Link to emotion icons missing

Maybe I am missing something, but when I am on the 24 hr viewer and I want to respond by clicking on one of the posts to the original post, there is no link to the emotion pop-up. If I click on the original message, there it is. Did I miss something?*zzz Ken Palmer
