wema tank indicator stuck

The Wema meter that reads the level of my holding tank now never reads higherthan zero, even when the tank is nearly full. Is there a mechanical piece that is stuck? I tried filling and pumping thetank several times but the meter isstill stuck.Any suggestions?

Try removing the sender

And cleaning it. Fun job (NOT) I know...but animal fats in sewage, plus bits of paper and solids tend to clog Wema senders, requiring periodic removal and cleaning. Unless your tank is metal, you might consider just replacing the d'd thing with one of foil srip gauges that attach to the outside of the tank.

I happened across this post and may have an idea for you. I assume the indicator is electrical instead of mechanical. I do not know for sure on the 340, but almost all guages are electrical this days. Use and ommeter to determine if you have a bad electrical connection somewhere. Could be corroded wiring harness or connector. I have recently encountered this problem on my motorcycle with the fuel guage and my truck with the speedo. A little sandpaper and a blast of contact cleaner in wiring harnesses fixed both.Hope this helps.

I followed Peggie's advice and removedthe sender. The sender is a perforated cylinder, about 2" in diameter that hasan internal, rod running up and downits center. There is a slideron this rod that must connectto a transducer. Somehow the slidergot stuck. I freed it by sloshing thesender in a bucket of clean water.Of course, before I did any of thisI had the tank pumped and then Iflushed it about three timeswith clean water. Nevertheless,this job ranks near the bottomof things I want to do to maintainmy boat. The bad news is thatI expect the slider will getstuck again and I will have to repeatthis task.
