Peggy: Any experience with Wema guages? My new 460 has 5 water tanks and 2 holding tanks all with Wema guages. Only one water tank guage and one holding tank guage works. I know it's a warranty issue, but are these guages any good? Thanks Mark Johnson

Works but sticks

We installed a Wema gauge on our P42 holding tank last summer and it's still working but won't ever read empty or anything below 1/4 full. I think someone posted a similar problem last year (look for WEMA in the archives) and they fixed it by taking the sending unit out of the tank and spraying it clean. Evidently stuff gets caught in the bottom of the tube inside the tank. I wouldn't think that would happen in a water tank though. Have you checked the electrical connections?

wema gauge

I have the wema gauges and have had very good luck with them. I have had to clean the one in the holding tank several times though I do think I have found the trick to that. I was putting a little veg. oil in the head to make it pump easier. I found out later that his just made a paste with the paper to clog the holes. I since have poured alittle Dawn Dish liquid into the pump out hole after pumping out the tank. This will break down any oil in the tank and clean the sending unit each time I pump it otut. So far, it has worked well for me.

Wema gauges are ok for water, but...

I don't recommend 'em for holding tanks. The animal fats that naturally occur in sewage tend to clog 'em up, requiring at least annual removal of the sending unit to clean it. I thought Hunter was now using the Acu-Gauge--the foil strips that go on the outside of the tank. Jim?

New Wema Holding Tank Sensor w/backflush

Wema has a replacement unit for the holding tank sensor that includes a backflush hose attachment to the top of the sensor. Cost $42 for sensor and $20 for hose unit. I've just received such a unit and can give you an update in about a year.

AcuGauge Huge ?? Any alternatives.

Peggy: The AcuGauge seems to be a great solution, except for the size of the meters. Is there any other choice?

The meters aren't THAT big!

You might give them a call to see what other sizes are available...btw--the Dyna Gage in the WM catalog is the same thing.

Wema Gauges inquiry

I had the holding tank gauge replaced once under warranty, later it broke again, now the fresh water tank is also broken, gave up on the gauges

Got Acugauge material via Internet

Got the AcuGauge brochures via internet. Look good, except for the size of the meter. Installed the upgraded raplacement Wman Sensor today in 20 minutes. No fuss. Will report on how long it works. Prevsious sensor worked for 3 years.

Acu-gage Web site

Acu-gage is manufactured by Snake River Electronics. Check out their Web site at http://snake-river.org. I ordered from them and found them very helpful (even if they don't spell gauge right!).

Warning -- West Marine is a little clueless

I ordered an AccuGate from West Marine catalog. They first e-mailed me that the product was back ordered and would be 6-8 *weeks* before it would be available. Then I got a package, which was obviously a return of an old gauge (wires crimped, tape around stuff, the glue pot was hard as a rock). After I calmed down (after all, I paid full price for a new product, not a bargain basement return), I called the catalog number and complained. They sent me a prepaid shipping label for an RMA. (I get a refund, but I still won't get a new gauge because they don't have any.) I just called Snake River and got the details: GaugeTronics was a distributor of the Snake River product. Apparently SR dropped GT and since GT supplied West Marine, that supply line is now somewhat confused. Snake River will sell direct but only check or C.O.D. (no credit cards). They will also sell units with fewer sensors at a lower cost, and you can buy new sensors to replace old ones, or add a new tank.

Acu-Gauge Size

There are 2 models. The RV model required an 8" cutout, the Marine model is about 2" shorter.
