After interior work, motor work, now comes my dilemma for real!!!!!
I have a crack at the back of the keel at the hull. Also the hull has a nice dimple for lack of a better term just right of the keel issue.
She has been on the hard a few years before I got her
There has been NO groundings( I have original receipt from her last haul out, )
I have receipt from haul out and bottom work done, cleaned, barnacles removed, stripped AND new bottom paint, but owner stopped sailing that winter and it NEVER went back in. She just paid storage for years until she gave her to me.
So my dilemma is how did this damage happen? Improper handling at yard?
Set up wrong for years?
How can it be corrected?

Woof! That needs to be evaluated.. does it go through hull??!?
I can't tell from looking at the pix.. Some exploratory grinding needs to happen to see if it is structural or if just cosmetic/shallow.. If cosmetic, grind smooth and fill with epoxy mixed with a filler like microbaloons and then sand smooth and paint.. If structural, grind out , taper the edges and go back with a full thickness tapered patch... then fair as above.. Sounds terrible but it is not that bad of a job. If you aren't comfortable with glass work like that, get a good glass technician to look it over and propose a fix.

I looked at a hunter 30 in Buffalo NY with grounding damage in that exact same area. This was approximately 2-3 years ago. Made the appointment to see her one weekday and the owner ran her around that weekend. Passed on the sail pending insurance company inspection. They totaled the vessel due to internal structural damage. Are you absolutely sure of her past?

Edit: As Jackdaw states below. This vessel I inspected had a large chunk missing from the trailing edge where it was on the rocks.

Check to see if the trailing edge of the bottom of the keel is fair, and ALL LEAD. It looks like it was 'dropped' on the trailing edge of the keel, and flexed in the hull aft of the keel badly. If true that portion of the keel would have been repaired.

You absolutely need to get into the bilge at that area and see what it looks like from the inside.

In any case you gotta get that fixed before you can sail.

What does it look like, picture, in the front it the bilge, just around where the damage is on the outside?

It sure looks like it was dropped on trailing edge of keel to me. Also noticed what looks like previous fiberglass repairs (layers) around the damaged area, now covered with bottom paint. I guess ice could not have caused this. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Bilge and another shot
You are going to have to pull the floor to look at the area directly aft of that. The sump and bolts look fine but if the boat was set hard on its keel they would. The pressure from that event would have been directed to the area directly behind the keel, which is covered by your floorboards.

Picflight,
Looking at middle pic( dirty bilge) aft under flooring there is a raised bump, because that area of bilge is at base of steps to cabin, bump I think coincides with damage underneath. There is a crack for lack of a better term about 2 inches long and half a penny deep. For all the techies I apologize for the crude measurements. The patchwork you see in pics I done and then took off because I don't know what I was doing. So I'm looking for advice and a great Glasser in Annapolis /severna park area

Well, well,well,
Had few technicians come out and because the damage in rear has caused a bump in cabin floor in same spot, sounds like there is work to be done. I've had 3 estimates so here is my dilemma, only one says I need to have keel removed then work on inside floor , yada yaya yada, so,,,, does keel really have to be removed to fix cabin floor and this patch? This is at minimum looking to be a 5k job!!!!! Unless I can find someone comparable at a lesser price but still get the quality work!!!!

Send a message and pictures to John Cherubini's son (on this forum). He is restoring an old 25 and has lowered his keel and fixed some damage. He lowered, epoxied and sealed his keel with 3M 5000-series adhesive and it looks great. He had some good info about this repair on his site. I think it is: dianaofburlington.com
