Lost a hat

off of Dauphin Island, AL. Did a pretty pathetic man overbaord drill trying to find it, again. Had to buy a new hat. In Alabama, you can get a replacement registration sticker for only about $5. The full annual registration fee for my MacGregor 26 was only $12.50,I think.

Lifeline gate.

Was taking the backrests off to clean the sunbrella and the lifeline gate slipped right out of one and into the drink. Man, boats can sure make you feel stupid. Mac

Not Yet This Year

But I amazed at how effecient the shrouds are at uncliping a cell phone and a pager sending over the side. The Phone I replaced the pager I decided to do without. It is nice being able to use the bad cell coverage on the base to my advantage. That damn pager worked everywhere.

I guess I win...

the door prize for my drop...brand new cordless power drill, straight our of it casing and freshly charged...did not last 5 minutes on the foredeck... Amazing the effect of water on power tools!!! Sometimes, I wonder how I can get back into my slip with all the stuff I have dropped overboard. I bet there's a Carp downthere that as a much better equipped tool shop than I do! GG

GG, I Wonder

Did you pay for the drill with a credit card? Many of them offer insurance on purchases. Thankfuly my Platnum Mastercard covers auto insurance on rental cars. Last time I was in Germany I rented a 5 series BMW was T-boned and totaled the car. The agent when I rented the car told me my auto insurance covered their rental cars so I did not purchase the coverage. Well, my insurance company does cover rental cars and even though the company writes policies in Europe and the US they are seperate divisions and I was not covered. Mastercard took care of me on that one.

Flashlight second week in January

Yep, drop a brand new $60.00 L.E.D. flashlight into the drink the day after I bought it, I know where it's at 55' of water. Gonna dive after it in a couple of months for the heck of it. On the box it said it was water resistant....hahaha, we'll find out............Tim Welsh H34 AKA Cabo Wabo

Science should --

Look into the huge magnetic properties of water. It acts like a "Black Hole" sucking up everything dropped. Wonder if these items come out on the otherside of the universe? Jim

water resistant

From my understanding, water resistant means if you splash water on it, the water will not penitrate. Water Proof means it can be submerged so many feet without water getting in. Big difference that most don't know about.

GG, water and power tools.

GG, if the drill was not running when it went into the water, there is a good chance that you can save it. If it was salt water, put it in a tub of fresh water and rinse it out a few times. The key, after that is to let it dry out completely. If it is completely dry before you turn it on again, more than likely it will operate just fine. The big mistake that people make is to try the tool again while it is still wet to see if it will work, and the water creates shorts in the tool and burns it out. As long as it has not been turned on while still wet, there is a good chance that it will be OK. Spray it down inside and out with some WD-40 to prevent corrosion. I have had such success with electrical appliances a couple of times.

Offerings to the Lake/Sea Gods

I tell my wife (and friends) that these are offerings to the sea and lake gods. We've had our O'Day 25 for 3 years, and the Coronado 35 for about 6 months. We sail a LOT, but I think I still have an extrodinarily high "offering" rate: 1st year - My wife's keys. The $30 magnet I bought and lost trying to recover my wife's keys. 2nd year - My wife's cell phone. 2 pair of my wife's reading glasses. My "Homer Hat", a fishing hat that contained all of the state (and Canadian Province) pins between AK and TX, representing our purchase of the O'Day 25 in Homer, AK, and it's trip south via trailer to TX (This "offering" was particuarly disappointing). Blew off my head in a sudden storm where winds went from a gentle 15 knots to 35 sustained with 45 gusts. 3rd year - VHF antennae (I was getting ready to reattach it after trailering to the coast). A 1650 power washer I was toting in a cart that got off balance JUST ENOUGH to dump the washer. And just last week, the BlueTooth headset ($100) that a shroud clipped off my ear. I don't even count any of the many clevis pins, washers, bolts, and occasional wrenches. I've heard rumors though, that there are multiple video cameras at our marina, so I suppose things could be worse. I'm really thinking of breaking out my scuba gear to see what's down there.

I'm touched and ...

beaten... Some of you guys have donated to Neptune a lot more stuff than I'll ever afford to, no wonder Neptune won't return my calls, he's too busy enjoying Herb's great gifts!! Seriously, This unit was dropped last spring right after launch, although the ice had just barely melted, this gadget made it straight to the bottom, and there's no way any divers would dare go into the water for a swim...the water in our bay is almost at a solid state it is so bad. Paid cash for it, I guess I'm SOL. Now I use a 2 dollars screwdriver on deck, more work less pain in case of a lost. Thanks for all the good ideas and compassion!!! GG
