I bought a 'new' Hunter today. However, it wasn't what I was expecting. The owner didn't advertise correctly- I didn't look at a 25.5 today; instead, I sailed a 1978 H25. Imagine my initial shock, after spending a week combing the archives, searching the net, looking for advice... all for the wrong boat! We sailed the H25 anyway, and decided we liked it. It's a little older than we would have liked, but 'Adagio' has a TON of character, and even more potential. She's a solid boat, and all of her rigging, fittings, gel coat, woodwork, and miscellaneous working parts are in pretty good shape. The sails are little discolored, but still have plenty of life in them. the running rigging needs to be replaced, the wiring needs to be checked, and the bottom cleaned, and the head rebuilt, but what can one expect from a 22 year old boat? The First Mate and I are looking forward to a summer of comfortable cruising...) I'm still interested in hearing comments, pro or con about this model of Hunter. Wish us luck! --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind' AND H25 'Adagio' (That's a WHOLE lot easier to type!)

Next Best Thing

Jon, Congratulations on your "new" 25!! Too bad it wasn't a 25.5 but the 25's are really good boats, just older and not as much room and a bit slower. Still better design than most being built today. I hope you enjoy Adagio! Dick

Congratualations

Congratulations on your new boat. We sailed a '79 25 for the past 4 years on the Great Lakes - out every weekend and for a 2 week cruise North every July. We found "Windbreaker" to be fast enough, steady (she would typically heel to 15 degrees and then stay there) and easy to sail. With just the 2 of us aboard, she was comfortable enough below for a couple of weeks. Problems we had were all leak related - check around and under the mast step for softness in the core and evidence of leaking by through-hulls. We had to caulk the toe-rail every spring and fight with a leak by the forward hatch, but we were always able to seal her up fairly well. We just moved up to a larger boat, and our old 25 is just a few slips down the dock from us with new owners who are as happy as can be to have found her. So she'll keep sailing this Summer, and for many more to come. If you enjoy "Adagio" half as much as we did "Windbreaker" you'll have a great Summer. Good Luck John C. Goacher Saginaw Bay

Outstanding!....

Jon, Congratulations!! Got to admire people who just go out and do it. There’s always been a real soft spot in my head for the “Good Old Boats”. I suppose you'll start crowing about Cherubini designs now. I don't have a clue who did the work on the 23 but I think he's got to be out of Rehab by now. :) And of course, don't forget to fire off those "Help Peggie!! My cabin smells like poo" posts. The ol Port-a-potty lacks that nautical flair but at least, if it mal-functions you can drag it home and fix it. :) Sense you boat is so ancient, I've got a lot of old Southcoast bronze/oak blocks and Merriman Turnbuckles from a previous boat if you need them. Again, congratulations, Greg H23 Faster-

Got Mine Last Year

I bought a '78 H25 last year in excellent shape. Put a little work into in this spring, like 120v outlets, bilge pump, some outboard motor repair, etc. Sailing last fall was a blast, especially since the price suited me best. No complaints here. Looking to some long weeks on Lake Superior this summer. You picked a good boat as many others will verify.

My first love......

Congrads on the new boat... We love our H25!!!! I have the deep keel and lots of extras. She is a great boat to sail in the chesapeake. Very stable even in high winds. Ive walked a lot of boats and people all the time ask how I like my 27. When I tell them its a 25 they are amazed because it looks so much bigger. Happy Sailing. Just bought one last week

We just bought a 1982 H25 last week - taking delivery tomorrow for the sail from Havre de Grace MD to Baltimore. I was impressed with the boat's handling on a test sail in the Susquehanna River. Practically everything on the boat is in well-kept condition, and she seems to be relatively leak free. I'll offer more comments as I sail the boat this summer.
