Here is a question that I may have overlooked the answer or can not find. Whirlaway is a 1974 Catalina 22. She is in very good condition for her age and sails beautifully. However, my wife and I did encounter something odd while sailing with guests on board. I am not a small person, 6'7" 270 and the other half is, how shall I put it, a tad heavy. Our guests combined were around the 500 lb mark. Adding us, it puts just under a 1,000 lbs in passenger weight. Most of our sailing has been just the two of us and the boat is fine. Last trip we felt things that were never experinced before like something moved under us. We were in a moderate wind with main and job. Does anyone know if there is a weight limit as to what a Catalina 22 can carry? I figure with the extra cushions, 6 gallons of gas, sails, anchors and miscellaneous equipment there is a lot on board before we leave the slip. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Consider it well Ballasted

Do not be concerned about a little extra weight. There is no weight rating for the C22, and more weight will give you more ballast. So, no worries.

Keep them off the mast!

You should be fine as long as your crew doesn't attempt to climb up the mast! We've had 6 people in our C22 and they probably added up to around 800-900 lb and it was just fine, just a tad slower.
