This is for Keith, or anyone who wants to single hand.

If you do a lot of single handed sailing, eventually, you're going to get into a tight spot in an anchorage. You may wake up in the morning and discover that the wind changed over night and the stern of your boat might be pretty close to an object that you don't want to drift into when you go to up anchor. Year's ago when I mounted my anchor roller, I mounted it on an angle between the bow plate and the bow pulpit flange, which was the only place that I could mount it without changing my deck hardware. It worked out great for me after I picked up a couple of used snatch blocks in a marine consignment store because it enabled me to raise my anchor from the cockpit while operating my outboard. It works great every time. Using a cut down milk crate with rope handles for my anchor line makes it easy to carry the anchor line to and from the bow to the cockpit. I can remember anchoring in Newport RI Harbor in front of Fort Adams, watching the Newport Folk Festival, and seeing more and more boats anchor behind us in that deep water. I'm glad my wife was with me that day when I had to pull the hook up. That was scary. Anyway, here's some pics that I promised you Keith.

Keith,
The bales should be on the inside. I just mounted single sheave blocks on these bales for my roller furler line, just two weeks ago. I was using the plastic fair leads on the Starboard deck that came with my boat, and the rope was cutting through the plastic. I would mount them so that they are on the inside, if I were you. I know. It's a PITA to change it back. You can make the call.

My friend Storm'n Norman Hooben lives in Ozark Al. and he and his wife Debbie just bought a condo in Dennis on Cape Cod Ma. He's into sailing and likes MacGregor sailboats. They're up here for the summer, right now.
