weeds on keel

Are there any ideas out there on how to get weeds off the keel while racing with a H23? I was ahead of 3 Precision 23's and one Oday 25 around 3 marks. Then went thru a weed patch and got passed by all the boats on the last down wind leg. Any Ideas?

Hmmmm

I'm assuming the weeds got caught on the leading edges of the wings? I'm stretching here (and also assuming that the boat is on the trailer) but a small vertical hole in the outer corner of each wing might do the trick. Open out a coat hanger and run it from the hole on one side, forward and around the leading edge of the keel and back to the hole on the other side. You should be able to tighten the wire fairly well with a pair of pliers. The wire will shield the square leading edge of the wings and any weeds or other obstructions (like crab pot lines) should slip right off. As I said, I'm stretching here.... Peter H23 "Raven"

Alternative??

While we don't race, I think we have the same problem. I know we get stuff on the outboard. I've been told that there is a stainless steel "knife" blade that will cut the 'weeds' so there is nothing to catch, made for the leading edge of large outboards for the bass fisher people and such. This was last week. Haven't had a chance to check around. This type of thing should be able to attach to the wings also. Just a though. Will investigate next week and post what I find out.
