One thing I loved about cruising south on Drift Away were Pelicans. I love Pelicans. Ungainly looking, but graceful in flight.

Beautiful photograph. I love pelicans, too. I find them to be quite gainly looking.
The American pelicans migrate thru here. We get thousands of them. All white with some black on the wingtips. He's not walking on water. That is ice.
This guy was waiting eagerly for dinner from the fillet table of a local charter boat in Naples. He wasn't going to give up his place on top of the dock locker, no matter what.
They are my favorite bird, then it's chickadees. Those little guys are indomitable.

The past 2 or 3 years we've been getting Pelicans on Eastern Bay, off the Chesapeake, as we go to ST Michaels. That probably speaks well of the Bay's recovery so the birds can eat the more-abundant fish supply..

@Justin_NSA I must ask for forgiveness. I had the same bad thought but I resisted looking for Pelican Frog communication.

...and the pelicans love us too. Bow rider while moored at Saba Rock in the BVI. Caribbean pelicans are a bit less gainly than Mr. Gibson's image.
We don’t get white pelicans where I live in South Carolina often at all. But I have seen big herds of them near Edisto Island, SC. My brother saw a white pelican at Lake Wateree State Park several years ago. We have loads of brown pelicans all along the coast of South Carolina. I told my wife we should convert our swimming pool to salt water so I could have a pet pelican.
What a wonderful bird the pelican.

@jssailem just pointed at that the correct word for a herd of pelicans is Squadron. In the words of Lipless from the John Boy and Billy Show, “That’s a lot better than what I had.”

LOL! We were at Bolongo Bay resort on St Thomas before we headed for Tortola to pick up out charter boat. The iguanas at the resort (employees?) would follow my wife on the beach. Turns out the lizards have a passion for maraschino cherries and her painted toenails were attracting them. We tested this poolside. They got real excited when they saw us with a drink that had a cherry. One actually fell into the pool chasing after one! Then we would toss a lime wedge and they wouldn't budge.
