I just purchased a 2000 Catalina 250 Wing Keel. It has a plexiglas sliding hatch as part of the pop top. There is a 33" weatherboard mounted aft of the plexiglas hatch which also has a hasp to lock the hatch. The weatherboard is made from plastic (starboard) and is broken in two places. It is used as a handle to push or pull on the sliding hatch to open and close. I have had trouble trying to find a replacement. The factory is trying to find a replacement, but so far no luck. (The Catalina 250 apparenetly is no longer manufactured with a pop top hatch like this. )

Any suggestions?

Two that come to mind. One is to remove the broken piece from the plexiglass, cut a new piece of starboard to length, and reattach. Second is to replace the entire assembly with the new style hatch.

You may want to ask the question over on the Catalina 25 250 Association website http://catalina-capri-25s.org/

Just thinking, but from my memory, the C-250 hatch assembly is very similar to the hatch assembly on our C-22 MK-II version. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same, (would make sense from a manufactures point). Anyway, part of the problem might be the bend. It might be easier, and better, to make a replacement from wood if you can't obtain the part from Catalina. But bending the wood, (or plastic), to match is another issue. Might have to buy a larger piece of stock and cut it out curved.

Just thinking,

Don

Thanks for the input. I found 1" X 2" PVC trim at Lowes that is used as a replacement for wood trim for exterior uses. It is flexible and I was able to bend it to match the curve of the plexiglass, and screw two pieces of it together to achieve the needed thickness (recessed the screws). It seems to be holding the screws and working very well so far and almost looks like it belongs there.
