Forecast Info

We use: http://www.intellicast.com/Sail/ You can select a specific area of the USA and check the wind predictions for the next 48 hours. Wind predictions, however, are even less reliable than rainfall. Intellicast has good satellite, radar, rainfall, pictures too. It seems to be a very good all around site. And..... if you're anywhere the huricanes are, they have special coverage too. Ken S/V Wouff Hong

Local TV, NWS and The Weather Channel

Doppler radar is an integral part of my forecasting because of all the severe thunderstorms here. Most local TV stations have it and provide animated updates every 10 min. They also post the images on the Net. The Weather Channel compiles radar images and weather information from all over the state to give regional and statewide coverage, including barometric pressure, wind speed and wind direction. They also compile weather data from general aviation airports all over the state. This information is indexed alphabetically by zip code, state and city. I usually check conditions at one or two cities upwind of where I am planning to sail that day. The URL for the index is: http://www.weather.com/weather/us/ The National Weather Service broadcasts continuous information and severe weather alerts on NOAA weather radio. I usually listen in while I am preparing to shove off. Finally, when I am on the water, I keep a sharp lookout to windward. I try to be very careful, because violent storms sometimes pop up in under an hour around here. I hope this helps you. Peter S/V Raven

Here's one for you

twister.sbs.ohio-state.edu try it out, I have found it to be right on. Just remember 'Weather is a local phenomenon'. 72 knot microbursts do occur and thunderstorms lurk near fronts. Beware of sudden temp drops. Have fun, while you remain alert. Good winds to all.
