Well we are sitting in our boat (which is a plus) tied to the dock with the winds howling around 25-35kts. Rain is coming down by the bucket most of the time horizontal. We have a 5-10 starboard heel but the coffee is great. NO LEAKS NO LEAKS. Suppose to be leaving on a 10day trip down the Chesapeake Bay to Portsmouth and back. Leave tomorrow..... Went to the Annapolis boat show yesterday the weather was overcast but no rain and temparture was in the upper 60's. Saw the new Hunter 49, nice boat very roomy. Joan won't get it for my Christmas gift. Oh well stuck with this one for a while longer. Can't imagine what they are doing at the show today. Thomas Point bouy shows steady 25 kts of wind out the NE, which is straight into the anchorage and show. Think I'm getting seasick at the dock. Help Jim S/V Java

My wife and I drove 9 hours to get to Annapolis for the show today. Lots of rain and wind. Oh well. Better to be looking at boats then setting at the office. I will be drinking some pain killers Clif

Why does it always rain....

during the Annapolis Boat Show? Go figure. I helped Karen Larson/Jerry Powlas of "Good Old Boat" mag move into their booth at the show a few days ago and it was hot and sunny. We kidded each other about how often it rains at the show.... I hope to get back there on Monday, if the weather gods have gotten this stuff out of their system by then. What I saw of the show during set-up early in the week looks great! Some really terrific looking boats....

a gale

Depending upon your interpretation, it's not quite a gale on the Chesapeake right now, nor is it forecast to be today. One version of the Beaufort scale (see link) indicates a gale has 34- 40 knots of wind. NWS does not forecast that for today on the bay... All of you planning to go to the boat show

tomorrow be sure to wear your seaboots. Wind blown tides often flood the area of the show entrance.

Was Thurs busier than most Thursdays?

or was it me? I was there for the day and it seemed more crowded than usual - which is good for the business. Glad I made it Thurs and didn't try for my usual Friday. I'll bet Boater's World sold a zillion of those $19 raincoats today! I'm up in Baltimore and was expecting several friends up for the Fell's Point Festival. Anchorage, where I'm docked, had something like 87 reservations but now they can't give the slips away. Apparently they've dropped like flies!

I like the rain

We are going Sunday. My dad said if it is raining lets don't go. I said if it is raining, lets go! Fewer people, not so hot, no waiting to see boats. I like the rain. If it is a nice day, I'd rather be sailing! But last year or the year before, it was blowing so hard that I did start to feel seasick on the boats and docks. That was not a good feeling.

My Condolences, Jim!

Judy wouldn't buy the 49 for me, either! she said it won't fit in our slip...;-) guess we're stuck on our 356s! this was suposed to be a sailing weekend for us, too, but we've got 25-30kts and 7 foot seas-maybe monday...Oh well. At least Escape is back in the water after her shutoff valvectomy

Drove to Annapolis Friday eve.

in the RV and never got there but decided to do something else cause of the bad weather. Went to the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum at Dulles then roamed around the country side looking for a good place to eat, ended up at a nice little town called Port Deposit on the Susquehanna so I guess there's always next year.

Rad, if you had gone about two miles up

river from Port Deposit you may have found the Union Hotel. It was a hotel during the days when the canal was in service but is now a fine resturant. Up on the ridge above Port Deposit was The Bainbridge Naval Training Center. Port Deposit is on of the few places on the Bay that you can run aground on granite.

Ross,

I was thinking that yesterday while searching with Map point on the laptop for a resturant that I know someone who knows where to go eat thinking of you and a bunch of others from the area but doing 65 mph and trying to find something not to far out of the way off the highway and then hope we can park a 30 ft RV, as it turned out the program said a place called Bob's was nearby but never found it,ended up at some place behind the post office just over the RR tracks and by the river(I'm having a memory loss for the name)food & service was good thou. There is an interesting question that maybe you might know the answer to, when driving north over the F.S.Key bridge on the south east side in the water is a sunk vessel with just its wheel house sticking out of the water, Myself and friends have always checked out the wrecks on both sides of the bridge every year when we head south for vacation and, sooooo last night I go into the mens bathroom and there's a way too cool picture on the wall of just a wheel house sticking out of the water and thought of the vessel by the bridge,we asked Kelly the waitress if thats the boat under the Key brige and she says "there are pictures in the mens room" we don't have pictures in the ladies room and did not know the answer but said the pictures was from the PO of the joint. The picture is a classic

Rad, almost a mile south of the I95 bridge

on the east side of the river and under the Conrail bridge there is a couple of derelict barges and a half sunken tug other than those I can't think of any wrecks in that area. I believe nancy and I stopped in the same resturant for a break ( and a reward for her) the last time we had a chance to go out. The Fort Mchenry tunnel was built at Port Deposit and floated down to Baltimore. The Shipyard was Wiley and pretty much wiped out by Hurricane Agnes. They have condos and a High and Dry storage there now.

Thanks, Rad. We like it here.

Just a geart cruising ground. You perhaps noticed that the river spilt in the area of the wrecks. That is Garrett Island. Privately owned and undeveloped except for a few bridge supports.

Are you guys talking about the same bridge?? Rad said the Francis Scott Key bridge and Ross seems to be talking about the I-95 bridge over the Susquahanna, near his slip. Which is it? Tom s/v Orion's Child

I was talking about the

Francis Scott Key bridge heading north if you look down B4 you cross the bridge there are wrecks and one of them looks like an old tug pilot house Also on the other side if your heading south there is an outline of an old wood vessel
