oday 28 little river
I am new to sailing . I am looking at an 1980 28 oday. The boat is about 1200 miles from me . the owner has passed and the people getting rid of the boat say it has a couple week spots on deck around the sides. How difficult to fix them and what are the causes of this thanks for the help> Todd

Most likely water penetration through the hull at various screw / bolt holes / chainplates. Depends. You had better be pretty handy with tools, fiberglass, and epoxy if you are getting into deck repair. Probably should have a surveyor look at it, to save a lot of trouble.

Hi Todd, I second what Ritdog posted. If you research the archives in this website you will get an idea what needs to be done. Don Caseys book is another source you might want to look at. If you take a look at this boat it would be a good idea to check the area on top of the cabin under the mast for this same condition. Water intrusion is the bain of fiberglass boats. It may not be the kiss of death for this boat though, it is doable, but it is a sizable project, and learning experience. Depends on the individual. Good luck, let us know how it works out.
