We are looking for a Hunter 420 for sale by owner on the west coast. We are in Southern California. We prefer a 2000 - 2005 because we like the stainless arch. We would also like a furling main. If you, or anyone you know has one they would like to sell, please contact Debbie yotbum@aol.com. Thank you.

No offense, but with 12 of them currently showing available in the US (and one in Vancouver) I would think one of those would fit your needs?
While the cost of fuel has made it a bit more expensive, shipping a boat isn't terribly difficult.
Most if not all boats in that price/size/age range get listed through agents and therefore show up on Yachtworld. That includes includes bank owned boats.

Thank you for your reply. There are currently 3 Passage 420s between the years 2000 and 2005 in California on Yachtworld. We have seen all 3 and made offers on 2 of them. The sellers have high loans on the boats and neither would negotiate. 420s that are not on the west coast usually have the 5' draft, while the boats here have the 6'6" draft that we prefer. The one on Vancouver Island would deal, but would be to much of a hassle and expense to transfer the boat from Canadian ownership to US ownership, and to bring her home within our time and weather constraints. This is the reason we are trying to expand our search on the Owners Forum. All the Hunter dealers in our area are also looking for us. We're just trying to make something happen and appreciate the forum in our search. Thanks again for your suggestions.

If you can hold out until September, they will be desperate to negotiate with you. We have a friend who also tried to negotiate on one of those three yachts. The boat is still for sale and I am sure the owner is regretting not accepting his reasonable offer.

What is the problem with transfering the title from Canada to the US. I would think if there is a good title this should not be any problem at all.

Many of the boats that are sold from charters come from other countries other than the US.

It's not a problem, it's a $1500 expense through both Canadian and US customs agents. Between that, and leaving the boat up there until we can get it in September to sail down, we might as well wait and find one closer to home.
