Our old Windflite14 seems to be full of water, and we don't know how to drain it. Any advice?

The fleet of Sunfish that are used for a local junior sailing program all have drain plugs installed fairly low in the transom. The hardware looks like those shown on this page: http://www.apsltd.com/c-6560-drain-plugs.aspx
Installation requires drilling an approx. 1" hole, some bedding compound and the installation screws. Once installed the water is drained out by lifting the bow.

The leak(s) are most likely due to the hull/deck joint. I'm not sure of the best way to seal this problem but most likely the Yahoo group sunfish_sailor would have the best advice: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sunfish_sailor/

Good luck.

On the flip side of the Laser forum CalebD pointed you to is a forum for Sunfish. I found this picture and several discussions about drying Sunfish in there. Since Windflite was made by AMF as a sister to the Sunfish, good chance all their information is usable.

It looks like a Windflite has the same deck drainplug a Sunfish has (red box in the picture). Talk is they put the drain there so kids can just roll the boat up on its side instead of hefting the bow over their head like a transom drain needs. Unscrew the drain plug and let the water out.

That Sunfish Sailor web CalebD pointed to is my favorite - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sunfish_sailor They say the next step is to do a leak test and know for sure where water is getting in. I guess the deck seam has a lower potential than a couple of other spots because it's above the waterline. Their guide shows what spots are critical and which ones are less likely. Great bunch of files you can download for diagnosing and fixing.
