Water temperature sensor

I recently purchased a 1987 Mirage 32 with a Yanmar 2GM diesel. We started getting an alarm and our mechanic traced the problem to the water temperature sensor. I am having a heck of a time trying to find a replacement, has anyone found something suitable?

My first search would be with an automotive supplier. If that didn't work, a Yanmar outlet at 3X the price.

I have tried the cheaper option with sending units on a RV and it didn't go well. I recommend going with the manufacture at least. Try to find the yanmar tractor version.

Your sensor uses the engine body to provide a negative (ground) for the sensor. No Teflon tape or paint. It messes with the electrical connections.
