water temp. alarm

my 18 hp yanmar water temp. alarm sounds after 2 minutes of running. i changed impeller 2 weeks ago. great water flow from exaust. strainer is clean. anti freeze is unchanged. heat mixing elbow is about 5 years old and about 400 hrs, on it. any ideas?

If your heat exchanger needs service you may get good raw water flow but poor coolant flow. If you have an IR thermometer check the block temp with that to verify it is not a problem with the alarm. also open the cap to the coolant tank and see if you can see water flow. It could also be a stuck thermostat, once again an IR thermometer would help with that as you could check the temp on either side of the thermostat.
