My cb 1980 28 has two 25 gal. water tanks, port and starboard. The port on I have tried to repair,Split[cracked] from inspection port aft and the stb. one has crack on outboard top. I read at one time a year or so ago that some one was able to replace them with fexible water bags. When were they purchased and how much? Were they a problem in turblient seas? Thank You for any info. Hope your sailing season is a great one. jb

Water bladders

Jim: About three years ago the top seam on my OD 28 water tank split. The stuff is polyethylene and WILL NOT accept any kind of repair adhesive or sealant. As a result the water would stink in less than a week. So bad, in fact that you couldn't even wash dishes or your hands in the water. much less drink it. The price is about $120 for the size I bought and it is secured in the settee space as good as the plastic tank so it hasn't moved or been a problem. I only had one tank in the stbd settee base but it was/is impossible to remove in one piece. So I took to it with a rotozip tool with the plastic/vinyl cutting tool and in about an hour of cuttin/removing, cutting/removing a piece at a time I had it all out. I then vacuumed out the debris, covered some of the left over fiberglass tank securing material with some foam tape and slipped the new bladder in the access panel in the settee. I (think) I have a 20 gallon tank. It is roughly rectangular and is about 3'x2' in dimension. The fill fitting clamps directly to the existing fill hose from the through-hull. The supply to the pump is the same size fitting as the old tank line. However if the diameters are different then there are step-up/step-down adapters to complete the connection. Look in the Boat US or West Marine catalog for the different styles and types of water bladder tanks. The great thing about them is that they are not vented because they collapse as the water is used so there is no air to contaminate the water. It just keeps longer and better. Also in the fall you don't have the fill the tank with anti-freeze in the winter. Just pump it dry and pull it out for the season. You can then stick the supply line in a bottle of pink anti freeze to protect the faucets, pump, etc. I am on the O'day list for 28' OD's. I am Mike from Caseville you can e-mail me there if you have any further questions. The worst part of the job is cutting the old tank up due to the limited space. Also the tank can't be totally filled as it swells into the access hole space and above the settee lip. But it still holds enough water for two people for a week on one tank; and you have two. Good Luck, Mike Pitterpat
