I have a 2007 hunter 31. 2 probably dumb questions: I have afresh water leak at the fitting of the pump below my sink, but the main valve of the water tank can't be closed. Seems stuck. Any thoughts. Also, when should I be using the engine compartmment blower?

Unsticking valves and bilge blowers

Unsticking valves is an art form. Everybody has a way that mostly works for themselves. I'm assuming we are talking about a metal ball valve. Try rotating it just a little closed then full open, repeat this until the valve is closed. Be sure to support the valve body and not torque up the valve fittings. you don't want to make the situation worse by busting a fitting. Bilge blowers are used on gasoline engine boats 5 minutes before starting to remove any accumulated gasoline fumes from the bilges to prevent an explosion when the engine starts. Diesel engines are not required to have bilge blowers but I've seen my share of diesels that have them.

Engine Blower

Hunter did put blowers in the engine compartment on some boats if that's what you mean, but not really needed because no dangerous fumes like gas engine,I did use my blower when first starting engine to just reduce heat and any smells. Water tank value on a new boat should open and close with out problem, are we talking the value at the bottom of tank where first enters the water supply system. Nick
