Water tank under aft berth

Last night, we got the lid off the water tank under the aft berth. I used a couple of putty knives to wedge it off a little at a time. There is a reinforcing bar running fore and aft on the bottom of the lid and a full height baffle running diagonal from starboard front to port aft corners of the tank. The baffle has several 2-3" holes drilled into it at various places. The baffle is removable. Our tank was pretty clean. We just had to pump it out and just scrub it with a brush. We brought the lid home to clean it good and cut inspection ports into it. I am still looking into what kind of sealant to put around the rim of the tank to prevent leaks. I took some pictures of the process and will post them here when I get them developed. Rip

I wouldn't use ANY sealant...

Make a rubber gasket, instead. A better seal, and you'll be able to get the lid off again if/when you ever need to.

Ed, now all you need to do is...

Put enough water in the tank, along with the recommended ratio of bleach, to flush out all the plumbing. Directions in the article "Fresh Water Maintenance" in the HM forum reference library. Since you've cleaned out the tank, you won't need to fill it...just put enough into pressurize the system to keep the solution in the hoses.
